I want to make a system that detects when I get out of bed at night and turns on the lights when I do, but I do not know what sensor to use to detect me getting out of bed. Do you have suggestions?
A pir sensor at low level. Many people have one with a light attached which they plug in to a low socket and does this function for midnight bathroom trips. Forgive the pun
Maybe put a load cell under one of the legs of the bed and react to a change in weight?
If a PIR sensor doesn't interest you there ae break-beam options and floormat (security) sensors available, as well.
