Then for sensor selection you need to tell a lot more.
How fast?
How many dimensions do you need?
How accurate?
How big is the box, typically?
What material is it made of?
What shape do you expect and be able to measure?
What possible environmental disturbances could there be?
Any other requirements you failed to disclose?
Rulers or tape measures work quite well for determining box dimensions.
