sensors guidance; is beacon robot-tracker good for my project?


I am working on a highschool project with other four classmates.
In our project we need a robot to follow a person.

We were adviced into using a beaconing sensor that are usually used between two robots.
The problem is that some lights like flourecent may influence the signals between the pair of beacon and by that distracting the robot from following that person .
Thus, does anyone think it is wise to use a beaconing IR ??

Or should we use a cam ?

If there is any other “better” suggestions, it will be appreciated.
