Separate out Grounds fom eachother

I’m familiar with the line spikes. In mid-2005, I experimented with a 70W resistive load driven by PWM (about 8 kHz). Spikes appeared at the end of the line (1 meter long), corresponding to the MOSFET deactivation. But with a 300 mW relay coil and a short connection, how much energy could it really be?
