# Serial.begin(speed, config) can't get to work [solved]

I see in the reference that Sketch allows users to set the configuration, like Serial.begin(speed, config). I've been trying to get this to compile, but I must be missing something obvious (to someone else).

``````void setup() {
pinMode(4, OUTPUT);
inputString.reserve(200);
Serial.begin(9600,SERIAL_7E1 );
``````

The error I get is : /HardwareSerial.h:52: note: candidates are: void HardwareSerial::begin(long unsigned int)
I have no clue why this doesn't work.

Arduino IDE version?

Oops, yes. I was thinking that on my way home.
version 1-0-1

AKron:
Oops, yes.

Does that mean you figured out what is wrong? Or do you still need help?

Oh no, I haven't figured it out! I've tried every which way I can think of.

I think that requires IDE 1.0.2 or newer to be able to change the serial parameters.

Yes, from release notes for 1.0.2:

Lefty

Well I'll be. My version 1.0.4 at home compiles the configuration just fine!
Thanks for the help.
