Serial communication - use start bit

I want to read from a serial com with this configuration:

Baudrate = 9600 1 start bit 7 data bits 1 parity bit (even) 1 stop bit

On the documentation for Serial.begin it doesn't say how to use a start bit. Maybe I am out of luck and arduino's serial implementation doesn't support this.

Per datasheet, the Atmega328p's UART only supports configurations with 1 start bit, so Serial is always using 1 start bit.

So that means when I try to use SERIAL_7E1 as configuration, it should work? If so then my problem is somewhere else because it doesn't read anything.
