Serial instead of USB-TTL

I'm looking at getting a Sanguino, and I was wondering whether the RS232 shifter from sparkfun (I already have it) will work instead of the USB-TTL cable? If not what do I need to hook it up to a computer serial port?

The Sanguino has a six pin header, and the shifter only has four (VCC, GND, TX, RX)

I've used a p4 on a ftdi connector (with appropriate wiring changes). It worked for me.
