Serial port menu greyed out on ubuntu 14.04

Hi guys,

Was working on my sketch and allovasudden for no apparent reason I couldn’t communicate with my board and upon further inspection I noticed that I can’t even select the serial port as it’s greyed out. I uninstalled and reinstalled my IDE to no avail. Here’s the error code I’m getting:

Binary sketch size: 5,062 bytes (of a 30,720 byte maximum)
processing.app.SerialNotFoundException: Serial port '/dev/ttyUSB0' not found. Did you select the right one from the Tools > Serial Port menu?

Any idea what may be causing this?

Uninstalled my operating system and installed the newest version of Xubuntu, problem still persists. I am completely stumped. Help!!

To anyone in the future that has this problem:

Figured it out. Plugged in a different board (UNO) and BAM! problem solved. No idea why, but try that before you do something crazy like install another OS!
