Serial.println(millis());

uncommenting these lines to the program causes a comple error

#include "LedControl.h"

/* pin 12 is connected to the DataIn
   pin 11 is connected to the CLK
   pin 10 is connected to CS / LOAD
   We have only a single MAX72XX.
*/

LedControl lc = LedControl(12, 11, 10, 2);

unsigned long outputs[9] = {0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0}; // 9 valuies output[0-8]
int a = 0;

void setup() {
  Serial.begin(250000);
  // Initialize the MAX7219 device
  lc.shutdown(0, false); // Enable display
  lc.setIntensity(0, 5); // Set brightness level (0 is min, 15 is max)
  lc.clearDisplay(0); // Clear display register
}

void loop() {
  outputs[0] =  millis();

  // Serial.println ( millis() ) ;

  for ( int a = 0 ; a < 8 ; a++ ) {
    outputs[a + 1] = outputs[a] / 10 ;
    outputs[a] = outputs[a] - (outputs [a + 1] * 10);
  }

  // Serial.println( millis() );

}

any help is greatly appriceiated
thanks in advance

What error

Mark

collect2.exe: error: ld returned 5 exit status

Using library LedControl at version 1.0.6 in folder: arduino\ProgramsT\libraries\LedControl
exit status 1
Error compiling for board Arduino/Genuino Uno.

ffejrxx:
collect2.exe: error: ld returned 5 exit status

search youtube for the solution to that error

It's not a code error, it's a system related matter, try stopping ur real time protection(Anti virus).. "which is not recommended" or overwriting the ld.exe file to the bin folder in arduino folder.
As @BulldogLowell suggested Youtube is the answer. :slight_smile:

This is supposed to be fixed in the latest versions of the IDE. If you're running something before 1.8, try upgrading.
If you're running 1.8.2 and still experiencing the error, let us know...

fixed, thanks

was using 1.6.8
updated to 1.8.2, error is now gone
