serial resistor challenge

If you don't have any other resistors for now, I suggest my second series-parallel example above will be more than close enough at a theoretical 0.5% above your target (and below the tolerance of 5% for your resistors, so you'd better measure them anyway). You can switch it for a pot or a better resistor later.


= 2.485 k ohm. (Sorry about the screaming background.)

If you wanted a more general approach, I would rather measured the voltage over the base resistor in addition, calculate base current and take it from there, instead of a "one size fits all" measurement (well, as long as it is a germanium PNP bipolar transistor... but I see the advantage of just multiplying the readout by 100).
