Serial to Parallel Shifting-Out with a 74HC595 Arduino page outdated??

Hey guys,

I wanted to start working with a shift register so I checked out that page from arduino site https://www.arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/ShiftOut

and as I try to upload the codes from example 1 it gives me the 'Serial' was not declared in this scope error message. I was wondering if someone was knowledgable enough to say if the code on that page is outdated or if i could work with the actual IDE version? thanks!

Don’t make us chase after your sketch example.

Always show us your current compete sketch.
Use CTRL T to format the sketch.
Please use code tags.
Use the </> icon in the posting menu.
Paste sketch here.
Also, which board are you compiling for? I know you like messing with ATtiny. That error is expected if you're trying to compile for a microcontroller that doesn't have hardware serial.

Long standing error in both diagrams on this page.

DON't connect a 1uF cap to the green latchpin line(s).

Cap should go from VCC to ground.

Create a github issue for it so it can get fixed.

Someone finally did submit an issue report:

Unfortunately getting documentation issues fixed has been extremely slow and erratic lately for some reason.
