serial working on nano168, but not nano328?

so i bought a bunch of arduino nanos off ebay a while back.
im working with a program with serial output. it works on a 5V arduino Nano 5v 168, but not on a nano328 3.3v.
im using a max3232 to convert the lines serial port lines (an actual, serial port, not a usba adaptor.)

i tried switching flow control to none, but makes no difference.

any ideas?

figured it out. the board was a 3.3v pro mini, tho it said nano. anyways, wrong board selected. (nano 328 instead of 8mhz 328 pro mini).
