serial1Event for STM32F411CE not working

Hello
I am trying to get serial1Event for a STM32F411CE WeAct BlackPill board working.
Anyone know if it has been been implement or have it working please?
Board has loopback wire from PA9 to PA10 and i can see message being sent on scope.
if i add the check if( Serial1.available() ) in loop it works fine but the if( RxStringComplete ) test never becomes true.
Any ideas please imk

Code tried below:

#include <arduino.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <stdint.h>
#include <HardwareSerial.h>

volatile int RxStringComplete = 0;

void setup()
{
Serial1.begin( 38400 );
Serial1.print( "Test" );
}

void loop()
{
if( RxStringComplete ) // See if we have received a message
//if( Serial1.available() ) // See if we have received a message
{
delay( 100 );
Serial1.print( "REPLY" );
Serial1.println( );
RxStringComplete = 0;
}
delay(1);
}

void serial1Event()
{
RxStringComplete = 1;
}

'serialevent' is nothing else than if (Serial1.available()) {} in loop()

Are you sure?
I believe it was interrupt sent when UART had rx'ed data.
imk

Juraj,
Many thanks for the heads up re this serialevent must say i am truly surprised that it is not interrupt implemented. I guess i have worked on so many uC's and there development environments and generally found communications events to be interrupt driven (even DMA) . This bring to mind given the small serial buffer in the arduino architecture how easy it would be in loop() with some time consuming task to overrun the serial buffer if you don't get round to polling it for awhile. Mmmmmm bit of insight many thanks.
