servo and arduino

Hello,

I have an Arduino Uno and I would like to control a servo motor. Does anyone have an idea if I can connect this directly to arduino or better use an external source?

An external supply for that size servo is necessary. Make sure to connect the external supply ground to the (mystery) Arduino ground.

Just for enlightenment you may want to give this a read.

Reads in part:
"A standard servo will have a stall current around one amp, a micro servo will need a few hundred milliamps, and a giant servo can draw ten amps or more. ... The quiescent currents are tricker to estimate because they are not dominated by the motor the way stall currents are".

With the above in mind I always run servo motors on an independent supply not just for current draw reasons but I don't want noise on a uC supply.

Thanks for that link. I don't recall ever reading that before; it should be compulsory reading for anyone wanting to use a servo.
