Servo controlled camera

Hi !

I want to make a system which identifies an object and keeps it in view.

I would really appreciate some help with identifying what servo would be best. The camera must be able to move 90 degrees on the x axis in approx. 3 seconds. The Y axis doesnt need very fast movement.

I guess the size/ weight of the camera will affect the servo a great deal. We can assume were using a compact / DSLR camera.

Thanks for any help !

Try looking at Pololu. They seem to have a nice selection of servos.

If you want a great selection of servos - check out ServoCity:

They actually sell brackets and kits for pan-tilt units that are fairly robust (if you're willing to pay the price).

Hobby King has a selection of inexpensive servos. Below are some of the big ones. If the cam is mounted on a lazy susan (~$4 at walmart), then it can be turned by a standard $5 servo.
