Servo motor is continuously rotating as soon as connected to power

Hi everyone! Sorry if my post sounds stupid. I’m new to this thing. I’m actually doing this for a Science Fair that I want to participate in.

Anyway, my problem is… the servo motor that I have won’t stop spinning once connected to power. What I was planning to do is to make a door lock system with a keypad, LCD, & servo motor.

I was wondering how I could make it stop or turn to a certain angle. The one I bought is an SG90 servo motor (360 degrees).

Thank you for your help.

You have bought what is called a "continuous rotation servo" which, despite having servo in its name is actually no such thing. All that you can do is to control is speed and direction of rotation. It cannot be commanded to move to and stay at an angle. You may be able to make it stop rotating but you will not be able to control its angle

What you need is a standard servo as used in RC aircraft

Hi! Thank you so much!

The ones available here are 360 & 180. Should I buy the 180 instead?

For what are you using a servo?

For a door lock system with keypad and LCD.

That would use a normal (180 degree) servo.

How are you powering the servo?
