Hi i am new at this so please dont laugh.
I am building a device that will have a number of servo motors in it.
To get started i built the "knob" servo circuit and downloaded the software. It works fine but at the end of the stroke the servo becomes unstable and oscillates back and fourth a tiny bit.
Whats the cause and how do i fix it?
Sounds like your trying to drive the servo beyond the end of its intended travel.
ok you may be correct. However when i use a different servo ie a SG 90 i dont have the same problem. The one i am using is a SG 5010.
I can fix that by changing the software to control the swing from say 10 degrees to say 170 degrees instead of 0 degrees to 180 degrees.
Not all servo motors can do 0 - 180, some (as you have found) have a more limited travel/rotation.
A servo typically doesn't have the full 180 degrees of movement, 120 degrees is plenty for
flying an RC model plane - most servos have 120 or more, is about the only thing you can
say - these are not precision devices!
