I am trying to make a sound controlled automatic dustbin, my programme works when attached to the USB, but when i try to power it with a 9v battery the servo doesnt move. i have tried using the Gnd and vin inputs as well as the power port but nothing works
Likely your 9V battery does not have enough energy to run your servo. You could use 4AA batteries in series.

How long do you expect the battery to operate. I recommend you spend the time and determine how much power you need then using that information and the amount of time you want it to run without replacement/charge pick your battery. I think a motorcycle battery will die in a few weeks but that is a SWAG as we know nothing about the hardware.
