If I use a 9v battery to power my arduino uno using the round power jack, and a servo with a separate 6v common grounded source, where should I pick up the +v for the potentiometer? Will 9v be present at v-in to source the potentiometer?

If the wiper to the pot is going into the arduino you must use the +5V pin of the Arduino.
