Can a Windows based computer connect to an Arduino that presently runs off a iMac serial port without erasing having to flash the Arduino?

Did you have to re-write the boot loader to work with your iMac?

Yes. But not at the same time.

And of course it depends on whether there is equivalent software on both PCs if the Arduino program needs to communicate with the PC.
