Shields + Ethernet Shield Help

I was wanting to try something like this http://www.instructables.com/id/Twitter-controlled-Arduino-Outputs-no-PCLCD-Disp/
But I am a newbie with arduino shields.

I do not know how to connect them to certain pins i.e. The tut says to connect the ethernet shield to pins 10, 11, 12 or something, well I do I do this?

Doesn’t it connect to ALL of the pins technically because it goes inside of all the sockets???

:frowning:
Sorry I probably sound stupid!

Yes, the nice thing about shields is that they make all the connections just by mounting it on top. In a lot of cases though, it's nice to know what pins are being used, in case, for example, you want to stack multiple shields.

Pins 10, 11, 12 (and 13), are commonly used for SPI communication between devices (probably the case here as well). If you added another shield, it could use the same SPI bus, except for pin 10 which is usually the device select pin. Alternatively, you could not mount the shield, and just connect the pins you need with wires (the ones listed, plus power and ground, probably).

Give it a try, when you run into questions, post them here. Good luck!
