Shift Register Power up

Hey guys i'm using a TPIC6B595N Shift Register and when i apply power at "startup" the outputs "blink" once before clearing. How can i prevent this?

Look to see how they blink and then apply pull down resistors to the inputs. When the atmega first starts up it has all its outputs high impedance. This makes logic chips "see" logic ones on the inputs. Pull them down to stop this.

I'm interested in this too. What do you mean "inputs"? Do you mean the data lines on the Shift Registers? :-?

What do you mean "inputs"

Any input to the shift register, mainly the latch and clock. The data input is not so important because any spurious high on the input will not get through to the output if the latch and clock are well behaved.

Oh, alright. Good point :P and thanks for explaining.
