Is there a way to use the ShiftPWM library and multiplex with it at the same time without messing up the sync? I've used the library and it works great for me. But now I want to control RGB LEDs and with 6 595's thats only 16 LEDs.
I don't need a whole lot of resolution, should I forget about ShiftPWM and try something else?

Only if you hack the library to make it do what you want.
If you read through the ShiftPWM thread, the person who made it made a version for matrix use. Its called ShiftMatrixPWM. It is in the last few pages of the thread in an attachment. Depending on how many brightness levels you want and the refresh speed, it is able to control up to 1024 LEDs. I have successfully built a 16x16 RGB matrix using it (50hz,32 brightness levels).
That's good news, thanks!
