ShiftPWM with 56 RGB LEDs

he says he is using 595 shift registers.

so, you need 3 shift registers for each color for 8 LED's.
8 shift registers for red
8 for green and 8 more for blue.

you can you can change brightness of individual shift registers by controlling each shift register.

I imagine like this - don't forget current limit resistors.
I don't see enough wires coming from the Arduino for anything else.
