Shorting EEPROM life time

Good morning
Happy New Year to everybody.

I would like to receive an explanation, please.
I know that EEPROM have a life time...

I would like to know if I'm reducing life time each time that I read it, or just when I'm write on it?

Thanks on advance
Best regards
Pedro Ferrer

Reads are free. Writes cause wear.

Well strictly speaking it it the erase before the writes that do the damage.

Hello

Thanks by your replies.
Glad to know that is only while writing!

Thanks once again
Best regards
Pedro Ferrer

As long as you are not doing excessive re-writes, I wouldn't worry too much about the cycle life issue. It's rated for 100,000 times which means if you write 100 times a day, it would last for about three years.

And in practice, the write-cycles should well exceed what is specified.
