simple electret mic

i bought an electret mic like this http://www.image.micros.com.pl/_icon_auto/rys.kpcm15ep.jpg
and i just want to detect the sound volume ... and println in serial port.

I dont know how to use it. and I am using arduino uno
sorry for asking a simple question but i really cannot find any example

thank you

Electret microphones require a small amount of voltage to operate. They also only give a very small signal, so it will need to be amplified.

You will need to create a pre-amp which provides phantom power. The easiest way is with an op-amp, as in this example circuit:

Simple Mic Pre Amp based LM358 circuit

Component Parts List:
R1, R3, R4 = 10K
R2 = 1K
R5 = 100K-1M Potensiometer
C1 = 0.1uF
C2 = 4.7uF/16V
IC1 = LM358 dual op-amp single supply
Mic = Electret Microphone

oh my god
it's so complicated...someone told me that it is simple as just need some wires and the electret mic only...
but he forgot how to connect ....

however thanks for ur reply

For loud sounds you may get away with just the resistor and decoupling capacitor, but the readings on the ADC will be quite small.

Phantom Power??? Back in the 'Daaay'... we called that part a 'bias' resistor. It was for the fet in the microphone. I used to put a 50K pot in series with a 1K resistor. I used the combination for a mic gain control. For my ham radio projects. I am still a licensed Amateur Radio Operator today. I Made/Fixed/Modified a lot of Microphones that way. A little single transistor 'preamp' would have probably worked for that guy. 10 db of gain is easy to do, with less Components... well 2 or 3 less anyway. certainly less wiring to do. Although I have made them for years, I cannot get one to simulate for love or money or a 1/2 hours time trying, in a failed attempt to back up my fat mouth.
I just happened to think... WAAAY back in the day we used carbon microphones, I wonder If you can still buy them or even find them? Old school telephones were my source... but then at that time they were 'state of the art'... for telephones. Also seems to me that we could buy Electret's with built in pre-amps back then 100 mv to a volt out was typical. I wonder about now. I haven't used one since the late 80's.

Doc

I am following Microphone \ Learning \ Wiring
and i bought same thing do the same...

but the serial print is always 890 seems not working...

CAN ANYONE HELP ME ??

Do you have an oscilloscope?

sorry i dunno what is oscilloscope i dont have it
