Do you think you damaged it by opening it.

Did you try reassembling and reconnecting exactly as before to see if it works again?

It looks like the transmitter chip is the CC1020

You would need to read the data sheet for that device, and then use an Arduino to monitor the data sent to that chip.

I just had a quick look and it uses SPI but it appears to have 2 different sets if data lines, one for "programming" and another for data.. ( though I could be mistaken)

Those switches seem ready made to hack (or control from an arduino). So if you get it operational again that is the method I would suggest.

Monitoring The signal lines will require a Logic Analyser, Scope or 'sniffer' with decoding capability plus a lot more work. The first option above is a lot more manageable.
