simple relay

I am newbie
i bought one relay like this http://f.rimg.com.tw/s1/3/ac/95/21111216588949_202_m.jpg
i just want to switch on/off of a 110v normal thing
and i dunno how to connect the wire correctly...
can anyone help?

That link dosn't work for me, got another one.
Normally you need a transistor to drive the relay as you can't get sufficient current out of an arduino pin.

You want to switch something at 110v and you don't know how to wire it up.

You should stop right there.

If you do not know how to wire up mains voltages, DON'T DO IT! There is a good chance you will either kill yourself or kill someone else.

We can help you link the relay to the Arduino. Get a trained electrician to come and help you wire the relay to the mains.

PLAYING WITH MAINS WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING CAN BE DEADLY

To drive the relay you will need a transistor, a resistor, a diode, and a power supply at the voltage of the relay.

Connect them together like this:

The resistor should be something like 10KΩ. The transistor can be any general purpose NPN transistor - 2N2222, BC337, etc. The diode ideally wants to be a Schottky diode.

I use solid state relays, Go to Ebay and search "Gordos DR-OAC". Use your normal LED resistor and drive it straight from the Arduino pin. Dont be messin with line voltage, if you have no experience!

Even though you might well have experience... with mains power wiring. You might build a potential fire hazard that could invalidate your insurance. BE MOST CAREFUL. Better to buy devices designed for that purpose and design the Arduino to control them rather than trying to build all of it your self. Much safer too.

Doc

i agree if you don't have much experience with line voltages
don't take a chance because you are playing with unsafe voltages
even as an electrician i can tell you that there are too many ways you can get hurt when working with electricity
use relays designed for the job you want to do

also go to this web site, bookmark it, and take the courses. they are free and they will give you some of the basics.
