simulating human touch on ipod touch screen

hello forum.

i know the iPod's touch screen reacts due to the change of capacity when touched by a human.

i am wondering if it would be possible to set up some electronics (maybe a capacitor), place it on the screen and when powered up simulates a touch.

basically i am hoping to activate certain parts (apps) but not have to rely on a human to touch the screen. i also don't want to use solenoids or motors.

any ideas?

thanks a bunch, stephan.

A small square of black anti-static foam, with an earthed wire stuck in it should work.

Yes but that would be a permanent touch. You need to put the earth wire through a mechanical relay to simulate the touch / no touch.

Oops, yes, of course - I missed the bit about no motors - I was imagining a servo or pneumatic cylinder.
