Hi,
Can anyone recommend where to buy single axis joysticks from? Ideally, the small finger tip paddle joysticks which can only move in one axis and are spring centered? I suppose it could be classed as an analog rocker switch. Needs to have 5v input with a 2.5v centre and 0-5v total range.
I can only find the small 2 axis playstation thumb sticks which are too poorer quality for my application. I'm using one at the minute with the Y axis super glued solid. It works, but is far too sensitive.
Thanks
I just looked up single axis joysticks at Digikey, and they have many....BUT, they start off at $116 US. The 2 axis joysticks start at $2.50.
Think you can smooth out the issues with some averaging?
Why not take a 2-axis, add a mechanical enclosure that restricts the movement to only one axis and then read only that one axis? You could even 3D print the custom enclosure.
You can get some great hall-effect rockers designed for industrial and construction equipment. (Think of a blade tilt control on a big Cat dozer.)
They can get pricey. The robustness required to last through night shift on a mine site means that they can cost hundreds of dollars.
This level of robustness is also required for hands-on museum exhibits. Those knobs and switches have to withstand absolutely incredible abuse. If you have members of the public touching your switches then you will blow through hundreds of $2 switches.
Good advice guys, might bite the bullet and buy a few £60 single axis units for my production phase.
2 axis joysticks are a fraction of the cost of single axis units, but modifying one to make it single axis is timely and cumbersome. I need a small ish unit to fit into my controller.
I'll see what I can find.
Thanks,
Jim
