I had a dream where IC chips came in SIP form, eg a shift register or a Microcontroller, maybe they have their uses requiring only 1 row of pins, they would be great for light shows not needing jumpers around/over/below traditional DIP's...
There are SIP ICs - for instance, the Rohm BA6886 (and BA6886N) motor driver IC variants. I picked up a few of these from a surplus vendor (All Electronics, IIRC). I'm sure there are other SIP IC devices available...
A complete "graphics card" was 4 of those big boards. Apart from that you had your CPU board, RAM board, hard disk controller (SCSI) and I/O board (RS232, etc).
