Smart Robot Car Question

I recently put together the Elegoo Smart robot car v3 plus. I've had a couple issue. Firstly - the wheels apparently turn opposite to the direction they are supposed to turn. For example, selecting on either the bluetooth BLE app, or the infrared remote to go Forward, the car spins right. I triple checked that the motors are installed as instructed and wiring is as instructed. So I downloaded the arduino IDE and loaded the obstacle avoidance sketch and of course it didn't work correctly because all the motion instructions (fwd, back, left, right), were wrong. So I updated the forward(), back(), left() and right() to reverse the HIGH/LOW definitions and uploaded the sketch and it worked. And comments on why everything is reversed?

My next issue then came when I tried to revert back to using the BLE tool and infrared remote. They now don't work. Whatever sketch I loaded last from the Arduino IDE runs but I can't override it and use the BLE app or remote. I did re-installed the bluetooth chip and verified that the iPhone BLE app is able to connect via bluetooth - it just isn't able to override the previously uploaded sketch from the arduino IDE. Any help/guidance is appreciated!

Because all the wheels on a car don't turn in the same direction.

OK, I figured out how to re-load the original sketch that came with the unit from the download files. Program is called SmartCar_Core I then updated it to use the correct combinations of LOW and HIGH feeding the wheel motors to make it turn left, right, forward, backward properly. I can only assume there is a polarity reversal on the wiring to the motors but now I have a work around

Why is that? Can't you check?

Care to share the wiring diagram you were originally following? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I followed the diagram in the assembly instruction book. (attached).

OK, and you have the same connectors as the diagram with red and black wires and you connected the top and bottom wires to the motors with the colours as shown?

(I would have to do quite a bit of excavation here to find a couple of those motors to verify how they are assembled in regard to the polarity of the brushes.)

Did you follow the "pay attention to the direction of L298 module" advice?

Hi,
Have all the motors got the same plug on them, wired exactly the same way?

Tom... :+1: :coffee: :australia:

Seems we are all asking the same question, different ways.

Thank you all for your responses. The way the plug is keyed I believe it will only go in one way and it does appear to me to agree with the color (red/black) in the instructions. I've attached pictures. The orientation of the L298 module is correct.

The motors are clearly installed so that the same voltage polarity on right and left motors, would cause them to rotate in opposite directions, from the point of view of the vehicle frame.

Which is why the diagram indicates alternate motors wired with alternate polarity.
