hi
im having trouble installling software, and drivers i dont think the software is properly installed its sitting in a folder on my desktop but will run from there, the drivers are not installed as there isnt anything in the serial port menu please can someone guide me through
ive had a look in the device manager think ive installed the drivers now sees the uno on com13 (dolt like that) but in the device manager it does not recgnose the uno calls it an unknown device

There isn't an installer for the IDE, just unzipping it to a folder somewhere on your system is the only thing needed.
You have already done that part.
It's not clear from your post if you have followed the steps outlined in this getting started guide:
If so, please post back with the steps you have tried and what specific steps you are stuck on.

thanks for the reply, i dont see a port named arduino as in the trouble shooting
You should see an open port named "Arduino UNO (COMxx)" i dont get this, "Ports (COM & LPT)" on com 13 i have updated the driver and in the serial port on menu i get a tick on com13 is it installed?

I think that step is a little misleading. A lot of people have problem at that step.
Do you see anything under Unknown Devices?
Follow the driver installation steps for the device under Unknown Devices.
The easiest way to confirm you are working with the right device is to keep device manager open and plug in the Arduino while watching the Device manager window. You should see a device appear in the list. This device is the one you need to install the drivers against.
I think I misread your earlier post.
It is not clear if you are saying you see the Arduino on COM13.
If it is an Arduino UNO R1 or R2 then it will say "Communications Port" under "Ports (COM & LPT)"
If it is an Arduino UNO R3 then it will say "Arduino UNO R3" under "Ports (COM & LPT)"

yes i have an unknown device, but it win says its a Arduino Uno on comm 13, and half the details look missing.
and when you fire up software it says on the bottom right corner uno on com 13. ive tryed to open the control manager and connect ardunio in / out but can see it
right i now can see the device in d/manager if i plug/unplug but its still calls it an unspecified item com 13, in the ardunio menu serial port, its ticked comm 13
is this properly installed?

If you do not see the Arduino comm port under "Ports (COM & LPT)" in the device manager, then I don't believe the drivers are installed correctly.
If you open the properties for that COM13 in the device manager, what information does it show?
Since you are able to select COM13 in the Arduino IDE, are you able to download any of the example sketchs, like Blink?
