And yes, the power goes straight into the Vin pin.
What is the maximum voltage?
On a sunny day I would have thought that with it being at its highest voltage and the ambient temperature not being too cool you might have problems with the regulator temps.
I think that this needs to have it's own regulator setup and backup battery. Then it would be just right
