Unless there is something special about the solenoid, it is just a coil of wire that makes an electromagnet when current is applied. The iron center responds to either pole of magnetism, so it make no difference to it which pole if which.

Remember to add a flyback diode to your solenoid if you want to have the connected electronics survive switching it off.
