[SOLVED] /dev/ttyUSB0 is not created

Hello! I just bought my first arduino and installed the software on Gentoo Linux. I have the usbserial, ftdi_sio and cdc_acm modules loaded, but /dev/ttyUSB0 is not created. DMESG see the Arduino just fne and ttyACM0 is created instead. What am I doing wrong?

I bought an Arduino mega from sparkfun. Using the java gui on ACM0 show some noise at 110kbps. It is probably quite simple, but I have no idea.

Link to the exact board you bought.

From DMESG

Uh.

A *web*link to the board you bought.

But I will change my question is ACM0 a valid device or do I need USB0?

I’m confused.

You said you bought it from Sparkfun, I asked for a link to the one you bought and you provided:

Elv13:

So, where did you buy it?

The reason for the question is if you didn’t buy a genuine Arduino, it is necessary to understand what you actually have before proper help can be given. Generally, people aren’t tripped up on the “where did you buy it” question. A picture of one that “looks like mine” isn’t good enough. You might not notice the differences, but experienced users do.

Yes ACM0 is valid. Your test was not:

Elv13:
Using the java gui on ACM0 show some noise at 110kbps.

So? Was there any serial code running on Arduino? If not, what difference does it make what you saw. Why 110kps? If there WAS serial code running on the Arduino, did you set the baud rate to 110kps in the sketch?

I am new with AVR, I have a lot of newb problems (switching from PIC and T.I. LaunchPad. About SparkFun, it is our local sparkfun reseller, it just have another name, but they sell SparkFun boards (and a few other suppliers from the world wide web). My board is genuine, I got the stickers, and the paperwork say it is Arduino and manifactured and validated under license, warrant that it is 100% conform to specifications.

Back to newb stuff. If ACM0 is valid, why do I get

arvdude: usbdev_open(): did not find any USB device "usb"

Error message? Is the last stable version too old? I use Arduino 1.0 / avrdude 5.11.1.

EDIT: I had the wrong settings, work now
