SOLVED: Is my SIM900A GSM-Modem SIM/Subscriber-locked ?

Hi!

I've made a carrier board for a brand new SIM900A GSM Module. The board works perfectly (first try  )

A pic: Dropbox - Error

BUT, i cannot register on the GSM network with it :~

I've bought it from an Aliexpress-seller, so no product support :-/

When PIN on the SIM-card is disabled, it will respond like this:

AT+CPIN?

+CPIN: PH-NET PIN

As far as I can find out via Data sheets/Google, PH-NET PIN means that the module is locked to a specific vendor of SIM/Network :fearful:

When pulling the SIM and enabling the PIN-code on a cellphone, putting it back gives me this:

AT+CPIN?

+CPIN: SIM PIN

OK
AT+CPIN="1889"

OK
AT+CPIN?

+CPIN: PH-NET PIN

So, the same result.

Iv'e tried with two different SIM-cards, one for each of the big networks here in Denmark (Tele Denmark & Telenor)

Does anyone here have any ideas of what I could try, before pulling out more hair on my head ? :~

Thanks!

I've asked on the mailing list of my Local hackerspace, and we have it figured out now.

The SIM900A model is for the chinese market and some others, see list:

So AVOID the 900A model unless you are in one of these countries !

I have ordered some non-A models now

I just face the same problem and I found some interesting informations : it seams you can deal with this problem by uploading a new firmware on the sim900a
check these 2 links, you will get more details on how to do :

I'll test tomorrow an let you know if I succeed or not
