[Solved] Problems after downloading IDE 2.0

Today while looking at the Arduino website I came across IDE 2.0 which I downloaded.

Since then there are various problems which at the moment are too many to mention.

I tried to uninstall IDE 2.0 and reload but the same issues arose.

When I look in my Windows apps there are 2 entries for Arduino - Arduino 2.0.0-rc3 (991 MB) and Arduino 2.0.3. (559MB).

The Arduino 2.0.0-rc3 will not uninstall.

Any ideas as to how to proceed?

Don't use rc3, it was still full of bugs. 2.0.3 is the latest.

If you don't tell us which issues you have, nobody will be able to help you to solve it.

It can also be useful to tell us which version of Windows you're using.

Thanks sterretje,
The reason I didn't give examples was that in my humble opinion (a novice) they were related to the downloading of IDE2 which appears to be correct with reference to your response.
Having reinstalled IDE 2.0 the boards are using 2.0.3 now although the rc-3 version is still showing up in Windows apps.
The Window version is Windows 10 Home, version 21H2.
The Uno boards (gen Arduino and an Elegoo) are now working correctly although there appears to be an issue with the genuine Arduino which I will try to solve but come back to the forum if necessary.
Thanks again.

Hi @minced_pie

As long as you make sure you are using the latest release version (currently 2.0.3) instead of the outdated "release candidate" version 2.0.0-rc3, the presence of 2.0.0-rc3 won't cause any problems. But if you are interested in uninstalling 2.0.0-rc3, we might be able to help you out with that. First we would need more information about the problem, including a detailed description of what you did to uninstall it and what problems occurred when you did that. Include the full and exact text of any error or warning messages you might have encountered while attempting the uninstall.

Morning ptillisch,
I thought I had sent this message earlier but can't find it on the forum so apologies if you have seen a similar message.
This morning I attempted to uninstall rc3 via Windows/App/2.0.0-rc3 and it appeared to work however it uninstalled IDE2.0.3 instead and 2.0.0rc3 remains.
When I attempted to uninstall rc3 i received the following message:-

Windows cannot find 'C:\Users|Owner|AppData\Local\Programs\Arduino IDE\Uninstall Arduino IDE.exe'. Make sure you've typed the name correctly, then try again.

I would appreciate advice as to how to remove rc3.
Thanks

Hi @minced_pie. I've been trying all manner of high jinks to produce the same conditions you report on my computer, but no matter what I try I can't manage to get Windows to think there are two installations of Arduino IDE as you are experiencing.

Since I can't reproduce it, I can't validate any potential solutions to the problem, but I do see that Microsoft provides a special tool for cleaning up after missing installations. It looks very promising. Please give this a try:

Thanks ptillisch, had a look but it seems to handle only Microsoft programmes; IDE isn't listed.

As the computer is behaving I will just carry on.

Thanks for your interest.

OK, that is unfortunate. I think you have a good plan of not worrying about it.

I have seen occasional reports from Arduino IDE 1.x users (not necessarily 1.x-specific because it might only be that 1.x has been around so long that there was more opportunity for such things to happen vs the relatively short period of 2.x's existence) which were caused by people deleting the Arduino IDE installation instead of doing a proper uninstall.

I tried this with Arduino IDE 2.x, and found it was still shown as installed in the Windows "Programs and Features" interface (I didn't check in "Apps") even though I had manually deleted the IDE installation. When I tried uninstalling it from "Programs and Features", I got a dialog something like "Application not found, would you like to remove it from the list". After I approved the removal, it no longer showed in "Programs and Features". I was impressed that Windows was smart enough to handle this correctly. I am using Windows 11 and don't have access to a Windows 10 machine right now so I don't know whether this is specific to Windows 11 or if Windows 10 (which I see you are using) is also able to gracefully handle such conditions.

So it might be worth trying to uninstall from Windows "Programs and Features" if you haven't yet. There are instructions for doing that here:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uninstall-or-remove-apps-and-programs-in-windows-4b55f974-2cc6-2d2b-d092-5905080eaf98#ID0EBD=Windows_10:~:text=Uninstall%20from%20the%20Control%20Panel%20(for%20programs)

Tried that; two Arduino programmes were listed 2.0.0rc3 and 2.0.3.
Highlighted the first and clicked uninstall. 2.0.2rc3 still showing, 2.0.3 uninstalled.

It states 2.0.0rc3 is already uninstalled but does give me the option of does give me the option of removing it from Programs and Features.

I am now downloading 2.0.3 again.

Did you accept that option? After doing that, was 2.0.2-rc3 removed from the list of installed programs?

No I didn't; I assumed that it is similar to deleting a short cut rather than the actual app.

No, I believe it removes the Windows registry entry that adds it to the list of installed programs. So I think if you just accept the option then everything will be fine.

Deleted and doesn't appear in Apps now.
Thanks

I'm glad to hear it worked. Thanks for taking the time to post an update with your results.
