SOLVED-Problems installing genuine Arduino Leonardo on Windows 7 64 bit (x64) pc

I have issues with a genuine arduino Leonardo, purchased only a few days ago, any help would be very greatly appreciated. I may even pay you in hugs.

I have tried an assortment of fixes that have worked for other people on these forums but not a single one has worked for me

Things I have tried

  • Restarting
  • Using a different cable
  • Trying it on a different computer/OS
  • Using a different board of the same model that is known to work
  • Manually installing drivers
  • Using both USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports
  • Using a powered USB hub
  • Resetting the leonardo, several times
  • I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the USB

Details about my issue

  • Arduino leonardo is not recognised by windows
  • Arduino drivers will not install for this device, automatically or manually
  • Upon trying to install drivers I often encounter error 43 and the standard fixes for this error don't work
  • Upon trying to install drivers from the .../arduino/Drivers folder I get "The best driver software for your device is already installed"
  • Upon trying to manually pick the driver to install and using the 'Have Disk' option i get "The folder specified does not contain a compatible software driver to work with your device...."
  • I am using offical drivers that came with the Arduino software downloaded from http://arduino.cc/en/Main/Software
  • FTDI drivers are all installed

Details about the arduino:

  • Arduino appears as unknown device, under the "Universal Serial Bus Controller" class in device manager
  • Device has an unknown PID and VID and unknown compatible ID's
  • Arduino Leonardo On light (green) is on, but the L light *Yellow/Orange" begins on, but then fades off
  • Arduino leonardo is connected via standard USB cable
  • Arduino has yet to be used
  • Arduino appears physically intact

Details about the computer

  • PC is a HP pavilion DV6 PC
  • Running on 6 gb of ram and a 500mb Hard Drive
  • It runs smoothly for nearly everything else
  • I have tried using the Arduino 1.0.5 and 1.5.7 and even the Arduino ERW 1.0.5

-----ISSUE SOLVED----

After checking up on this thread and seeing no replies I felt a bit desperate, and So I initiated my very last potential fix. I used a blow dryer to heat the board up and melt solder, based on the assumption that my issue was the result of a broken solder joint, and it worked like a charm.
So if you are in a similar predicament, and are completely desperate, it is likely that a connection needs repairing and a heat gun/blow dryer could be used to remelt solder, however, use this fix only as a last ditch effort as the heat may permanently damage the board.

Could you figure out where was the loose solder?

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem with my Arduino Robot which is based on Leonardo.
The environment is the same. I tried nearly the same things.
The problem occurred suddenly during testing some sketches.
The motor board is recognized by the PC, also an Arduino UNO.
Your "solution" is not working.
Perhaps someone in the forum has a new idea?
Otherwise I can only send the Robot back to the seller.
Thanks for any help!
