i am trying to understand how I can do this better than what is already in the code, but I dont really understand the method required.
Then I would suggest that building network apps is not for you.
You need to try some other code to see if the Arduino can reach any server outside of your local area network. If not, you'll have to add a time server to your local area network. (Good luck with that. 8))
