I also suspect you are hoping for a magical no-effort no-cost solution.
If the solution you are proposing is not worth the cost of the equipment (whether it is $500 or $5000) then it is not worth doing.
Jeez, it probably costs $500 just to start a railroad train.
$500 is hobby money. You are dealing with a professional system subject to extensive safety regulation.
