Some Topics - I'm signed in - Others, notsomuch...

Can anyone explain this?

If I am on the "main site" (arduino.cc) - I show as "signed in" when I log in (my profile image shows).

But on the main list of topics in the forum (forum.arduino.cc), I show as "not signed in" ("Sign In" shows)?

But if I go to some topics - inside that topic (like this one, for instance) - I show as "signed in"...

But other topics, inside that topic - I show as "not signed in"...?

If I try to click "Sign In" inside those areas where it shows I'm not logged in (by virtue of the fact it says "Sign In" - whereas elsewhere, it shows my profile image - that I'm signed in) - it just refreshes the page, and it still says "Sign In"...

WTH is going on - anyone know?

You get used to it :frowning:

If, after clicking 'sign in', you're not redirected to the sign in page, you are signed in. If you're still not signed in according to the system after that, refresh the page ( or R) and you should be signed in again (and basically in any of the sections in my experience).

I'll never get used to it and it's really annoying.
There's no way to tell whether you'll be logged in or not, the behaviour seems totally random.
Sometimes it does help to refresh the page, but at least as much it doesn't help.
To me this happens on pages i visit the most (like the forum index or threads i like to follow, and bookmarked pages).
It'll be useless to try and log in once you're suddenly not logged in.
You can't post when you're not logged in of course so if you think you can help someone with your answer, you'll be hoping this will not happen.

I'm using Firefox and i'm not going to change that for trouble which exclusively occurs on this forum.

The software behind the forum is clunky, we all get problems of one kind or another. I know it's not good, there have been attempts to fix it but don't hold your breath for a fix any time soon.

I though it was just me suffering this eternal 'signed in/not signed in' problem. I used to visit the site several times per day but now just once per day at best because of the sign in Russian roulette.
I have in the past been signed in to the forum creating a reply to some post and after opening a tab into another part of the arduino.cc site to research for the reply have ended up signed out and hitting the post button, losing the post.

It is a well known issue and stems from the implementation of a third party software called AUTH0.
There are still multiple issues open on github for it.

However where it concerns the current forum software I am led to believe there will be no further bug fixes as the SMF forum software has reached its limits and is incompatible with AUTH0 .

Yes it is a PITA but until such times as new forum software comes online (don't ask, I don't know) then the issues in those respects cannot be dealt with.

We have also lost a KEY advocate in the backroom who may have been able to help which further complicates matters.
