Sound source switcher

Hi

I would like to make my Arduino receive IR-signals from a remote and then switch the sound source input to my speakers. The remote part is not the problem, but how do I make a good and simple sound source switcher with maybe four stereo inputs?

The simplest way is to control relays that do the audio switching.

If you want to do it solid state then there are specialist chips that do this but these normally handle signals at the per-amp stage. The problem with solid state switching is that you can end up injecting noise or interference unless your design and construction skills are good.

These are computer speakers so I think the signal is line level. The signal is from computer, Cable-TV box (PVR), PS3 and maybe some more.

Thanks, so to use the 4066 or 4067 it looks to me like I would use them to make a small MUX tree? Connect the different sources to the different inputs and then use the outputs of these switches into new inputs.

You can't use these for switching line level signals. That has been said before.

I am confused, as far as I can read, what has been said before, at least in this thread is that they can be used to switch line-level, but not speaker-level.

Have a look at this thread, all about a hi-fi input switcher and volume control.

Huh? People have been doing it for decades.

Only if they ensure that the signals do not go outside the IC chip's power rails. If you just connect a line level signal directly to an analogue switcher chip, it will distort the signal and damage the chip.
