Source of mechanical parts?

Just like there's Digi-Key, Newark, Mouser and perhaps Jameco for electronics parts, what's a good source of mechanical parts? Anything from ball bearings to axles to bushings to springs to nuts and bolts. (I can probably fabricate brackets and enclosures myself)

I'm in the US, in California. I'd like either in-person warehouses where I can feel up the merchandise (I can wish!) Or a website with very good parametric search (ideally better than what Digi-Key does for electronics)

Does this exist? What do you use?

McMaster-Carr is nice for mechanical parts, albeit somewhat more on the expensive side. They've got a warehouse in LA, so shipping is usually one-day, which is a nice benefit, and their quality is very good.

Other than that, local suppliers are best for hardware--it tends to be heavy and vary in quality, so being able to check it out is nice.

McMaster is my go-to. Prices are slightly higher but shipping is next-day (they seem to have warehouses everywhere) and their ordering process is awesome.

There's also Grainger, smallparts.com, Production Tool Supply, W.M. Berg (wmberg.com), Micro-Mark, Happ Controls....that's all that comes to mind right now.

Thanks for the suggestions!
I've actually used smallparts.com for end mills before, but hadn't checked out the rest of their stuff.
McMaster-Carr seems like everything I want, except without the discount Chinese prices
This list should keep me busy for a while -- thanks again!

There are others as well like MSC Direct,W. M. Berg and surplus center.com
