What FUD you are refer on? Please open the page and let me know where is IGNORE criteria. There is only delete criteria. On ignore criteria sender may get message that do not attempt to send further messages to the user.

How does that help with personal message spam?
It means "Do not bugging the user anymore and do not waste forum resources or you will be banned for good.", or explained in something more sophisticated way. Further, as admin you may receive note automatically and take action if needed.

I can safely promise that someone posting spam will not care about such niceties. Which makes a block-list-with-reply useless for dealing with spam.

The method employed by @dmjlambert worked well. I see no reason to deviate.
For grown man for sure... But some kids may be/are really annoying when seek for help and I seen most of them respond well on nice word and explanation.
In anyway, no need to change anything.
