Years ago I started with the Arduino Ultimate Kit from Maker Shed. In that kit were a couple of photocells. Would anyone know the part number for those photocells - I'm trying to match them at least reasonably well. Or alternatively, since photocells are kind of spec'd by approximate resistance at 10 lux, what that approx resistance spec is?
I'm seeing photocell specs at 10 lux anywhere between 5-10K and over 100K.
I believe that photocell and photoresistor are actually both the same name for light dependent resistors (LDR).
But my question still stands if anyone happens to know the answer. I have an older project that uses the Maker Shed LDR. I need to make duplicates and don't want to have to re-calibrate for a LDR with different characteristics.
The term "photocell" was originally applied to a vacuum tube photodetector, and can be taken today to apply to photovoltaic cells, photodiodes or light dependent resistors. So to avoid confusion, avoid using the term photocell.
In this case it would probably best to buy a new batch of LDRs from a reliable distributor that provides a data sheet, and replace the old ones. That way you are assured of their characteristics.
