Stand Alone Arduino / FTDI 3.3v

Hello All,

I need some help/insight/assistance - I do not know much about electronics, I appreciate a response:

I have: - Stand alone Arduino getting power from the 5v of USB - FTDI break out board 3.3v

I plan to program the standalone Arduino with the FTDI 3.3v breakout board. I would like to know:

  • Is it ok to proceed ?(just using RX TX GND from the breakout board)
  • Is it ok to supply the Atmel chip directly with USB's 5v?

Thank you for reading :) and thank you more for answering :D

The breakout board is @ 3.3V, it seems me that the FT232 chip is not 5V tolerant if it has a Vcc of 3.3V (as in that breakout, but you can check on its datasheet)

yes, for this point you can go ahead!

hope this helps

I use the same combination and it's been working fine.

;D thank you!
