StarterKit

What’s a good starter kit? I was looking on ebay and there’s so many different kit. what would be a decent one to start with?

When I first started, I got this one:

It’s been treating me pretty well

I do suggest that you also buy some resistors of common values (330R, 1kR, 10kR, etc.) and maybe something fun like LED matrices.

That’s pretty cool it also has the breadboard. So that’s all I would need to startup? I have lots of resistors, caps etc…

Well, I would get a bigger breadboard like one of these:

But the small breadboard is good for little projects, and if you plan on buying a Protoshield, it fits right on top.

I would also look into getting some LEDs (although that kit comes with several) and maybe an LCD as well.

What’s the difference between ATmega328 and ATMEGA1280?

The ATmega328 is the standard chip that comes with the Duemilanove, etc.

The ATmega1280 is the chip that comes on the Arduino Mega, and provides somewhere around 54 Digital I/O pins, rather than the normal 14 from the '328.

So I guess the 328 would be good as a starter?

I’d like to start with something like this

What’s the board between the Duemilanove and the blue breadboard?

Yes. I’d recommend you get a kit with the Duemilanove, like the one I showed you earlier.

That’s a protoshield. I mentioned it earlier:

OK thanks I probably was typing at the same time as you

I’m gonna get this from cutedigi

Sounds cool!

I had forgotten CuteDigi had an eBay account.

Good luck!

I put the order in, can’t wait to start fiddling with it. Thanks for the great info.

Would that LCD panel works

Yes thats a nice little LCD kit. But the price is almost too good to me true.

It’s from China and the bid is not over yet!!! I get tones of cheap stuff from China, mostly all knock offs but it’s good for small projects.

Looks like the seller is at least somewhat reliable. He has 12 100% positive feedback, so I’d say you’d probably be fine buying from him.

I’m sure you know that the shipping takes about two weeks though :P. That’s always a no-go for me at least.
