Hi all!
So I took out the ATMega chip from my UNO inorder to program a ProMini.
The chip fell on the floor and was stepped on by mistake. The pins are like bent badly.
The top of the chip says:
ATMEL ATMEGA328P-PU. There is also 1616 written on the chip. The chip has 28 pins.
While on Amazon, I can only find ATMEL ATMEGA328P-PU WITHOUT 1616 written in the description. Should I go and buy it even thought it doesnt say 1616.
The 1616 is probably the batch or lot number of week of the year 2016 the chip was produced. Not relevant for reorder. Also note, that a raw chip will not come with the arduino bootloader installed (maybe some places sell them that way). If it is just a blank chip, you will need burn the bootloader first
1616 may be a date code or some thing like that. The relevant part is the ATMega328P-PU.
Carefully try to straighten the pins like Bob says.
If you can't straighten the pins or if they break, you may want to get a part with that number that has a bootloader pre-installed. Unless you have what it takes to install a Uno (Optiboot) boot loader. Bootloaded chips are sold by Adafruit and Sparkfun as well as others.
yes, i got two. the old chip still works..lol. Oh well. i guess no harm in having 2 extra chips...
Note to guy who will read this post in 3 years from now:
Use an exacto blade kinda thing to straighten the pins very delicately. Put the chip back in the socket VERY slowly while make sure no chip is left ut and bending out of shape. Once in, they should reshape , more or less, like before. case closed.
