Stepper motor and a4988 issue

Hello everyone,

I have a simple question, I've been using stepper motor with a4988, it was for my pet feeder. It worked fine, had enough power to turn the auger to pour a meal for my pet. Then i tried to measure current, and after that it has no power, it turns, but not enough power to pour the food.
So my guess is that A4988 controller got damaged, because I've had issues with them before.
But I'am not sure, because usually if it get damaged, it does not work at all, but now my motor just don't get enough current.
The question would be is there a way to know without buying another controller, and could this be the motor fault? Which would be really bad for me

Describe in detail all the steps you went through to do that.

Be VERY CAREFUL never to connect or disconnect the wires between the motor and the stepper driver while the driver is powered up. The driver will be instantly destroyed.

The best way to check if one A4988 is damaged is to try another good one.
